Reference Point 2 - The 12th Fret Octave

The 12th fret is your second Reference Point and it's easy to remember because it is the open strings but one octave higher in pitch:

Any note can be found an octave higher on the same string by adding 12 frets. For example, the C at the 3rd fret of String 5(A) has its octave at the 15th fret.

Beyond the 12th fret octave, the sequence of notes will repeat in the exact same way, but sounding one octave higher.

Remember this...between the 1st and 12th fret there will be only one instance of each note name on each string.
